The Time is Now-The Spit Needs YOU!

By now you have no doubt heard about the major project underway in Popponesset Bay – the Longer, Wider, Deeper Coastal Restoration Project, being paid for in full by Save Popponesset Bay (SPB). Even with the recent Nor’ Easter the County Dredge is doing its work, and our contractor on the Spit, Pastore Excavation, is moving sand as planned. This project will lengthen the Approach Channel by 250 feet, widen it by 50 feet, and deepen it by an additional 2 feet! The dredged sand, about 57,000 cubic yards, is currently being placed on the Spit (for reference our annual dredging efforts yields ~7,000-10,000)!

With your support, an additional 16,000 cubic yards of sand could be placed on the Spit. It is advantageous of us to execute this in one fell swoop while we have all partners in place and our permitting window remains open. We have a remaining need for approximately $800,000 before the end of 2025 in order to execute the full scope of the project. This is the time to give!! Your support is critical to our overall goal of making the Spit and the Bay safe for swimming, boating, fishing, birding, and creating memories for us all!

Many of us have already made significant gifts to SPB (a 501c3 organization) this year, so we thank you! Others have yet to donate to the project this year. Please, as the calendar year end approaches, we ask you to join those who have made a gift by clicking here.
